Fynbos
Fynbos is a unique and diverse type of vegetation found mainly in South Africa’s Cape region. It features a wide variety of shrubbery, many of which are small, dense, and adapted to hot, dry climates with poor soil. Fynbos is known for its extraordinary plant diversity, including proteas, ericas, and restios, many of which are endemic—found nowhere else. This vegetation plays a vital role in supporting local ecosystems, providing habitat for numerous species, and contributing to the region’s natural beauty. Its rich biodiversity is a result of ancient evolutionary processes and the region’s Mediterranean climate.
