Fungal culture
A fungal culture is a laboratory test used to identify fungi causing infections. A sample from the infected area—such as skin, nails, or body fluids—is collected and placed on special nutrients that support fungal growth. The sample is incubated for days or weeks to allow any fungi present to grow visible colonies. These colonies are then examined under a microscope or tested further to determine the specific type of fungus. This helps healthcare providers diagnose fungal infections accurately and choose the most effective treatment.
