Fritz Zwicky

Fritz Zwicky was a Swiss astronomer who made significant contributions to astrophysics in the 20th century. He is best known for proposing the existence of dark matter in galaxies after observing that the visible mass of galaxies didn’t account for their rotational speeds. He also developed the concept of "supernova remnant" and suggested that some supernovae could be remnants of massive stars. Zwicky's innovative ideas laid foundational groundwork in stellar and extragalactic astrophysics, influencing our understanding of the universe’s structure and the high-energy processes occurring in celestial objects.
