Freedom Ride

The Freedom Rides were a series of civil rights demonstrations in the United States, beginning in 1961, where interracial groups traveled on buses through the South to challenge segregation in public transportation. These activists aimed to test and enforce a Supreme Court ruling that declared segregated buses illegal. Facing violent opposition and arrest, the Freedom Riders brought national attention to racism and segregation, helping to galvanize the civil rights movement. Their courage inspired many others to fight for equality and played a significant role in the eventual passage of civil rights legislation in the 1960s.
