Free French Naval Forces
The Free French Naval Forces were the maritime branch of Charles de Gaulle’s Free French movement during World War II. After France fell to Germany in 1940, these naval units continued to fight alongside the Allies, operating across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and other theaters. They played key roles in escorting convoys, engaging enemy ships, and maintaining France's presence at sea. Organized separately from the Vichy French Navy, the Free French Naval Forces symbolized France’s resistance and commitment to liberation, ultimately contributing to the rebuilding of the French naval capability post-war.
