Francis II of Brittany
Francis II of Brittany (1435–1488) was the last Duke of Brittany before the region was ultimately absorbed into France. His reign faced challenges, including internal conflict and external pressures from France. Francis sought to maintain Brittany's independence and engaged in political alliances to secure his duchy. He had a significant role in the history of Brittany's struggle for autonomy. After his death, his daughter, Anne of Brittany, became queen consort of France, further entwining Brittany's fate with the French crown. His legacy is a symbol of Brittany's unique cultural and political identity during a time of national consolidation.
