Frances Ellen Watkins Harper

Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825–1911) was an influential African American poet, author, and activist dedicated to ending slavery and promoting racial and gender equality. As one of the first Black women to publish poetry and novels, she used her writing and public speaking to advocate for social justice, education, and compassionate reform. Harper also worked with the abolitionist movement and supported women’s rights. Her work helped inspire progress toward equality, making her a significant figure in American history for her contributions to literature and social change.
