Frames in Discourse
Frames in discourse refer to the mental structures or perspectives that shape how we interpret and discuss events, ideas, or situations. They influence what aspects are emphasized, how information is presented, and what conclusions are drawn. Essentially, a frame provides a context or lens through which we understand meaning, guiding our interpretation much like a template that highlights certain details while downplaying others. Recognizing frames helps us understand why people may see the same situation differently, as each person’s background, beliefs, or experiences can shape the frame they adopt during communication.
