Image for framebuffer

framebuffer

A framebuffer is a dedicated part of a computer's memory that stores image data, such as the colors and brightness levels for each pixel on your screen. Think of it as a digital canvas that holds the current image displayed on your monitor. The graphics hardware continuously reads this data from the framebuffer and converts it into the visuals you see. When you open a program or move the mouse, the system updates the framebuffer with new information, changing what's shown on the screen. Essentially, it's the bridge between digital data and visual display.
