Fractured Rock Aquifer

A fractured rock aquifer is a type of underground water source found in rocks that have cracks or fractures. Water moves through these cracks rather than through solid rock or porous materials like sand. The amount and flow of water depend on the size, number, and interconnectedness of the fractures. These aquifers are common in hard, crystalline rocks such as granite or basalt. They can provide significant groundwater supplies but may be challenging to extract because water movement is limited to the fractures, making drilling and well management more complex.
