"Four Olds" Campaign
The "Four Olds" Campaign was a movement during China's Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) aimed at eradicating traditional Chinese customs, culture, habits, and ideas. It encouraged people to destroy symbols of the past, such as ancient artifacts, religious sites, and traditional practices, in an effort to promote revolutionary ideals and new socialist values. While intended to modernize and unify Chinese society, the campaign led to widespread destruction of historical and cultural heritage, often fueled by political zeal and mass participation. It ultimately contributed to significant cultural loss and social upheaval during that era.
