Four Foundations of Mindfulness
The Four Foundations of Mindfulness are a framework for developing awareness and presence. They involve observing: first, your body—notice sensations, posture, and movement; second, your feelings and emotions—recognize their transient nature without judgment; third, your mind—pay attention to thoughts, intentions, and mental states; and fourth, your mental objects or thoughts—be aware of patterns, desires, or distractions. This practice fosters clarity, acceptance, and insight into experience, helping you respond skillfully rather than react impulsively. Ultimately, it cultivates a grounded, compassionate awareness of the present moment.
