FOSTA

FOSTA, or the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, is a U.S. law enacted in 2018 aimed at combating online sex trafficking. It allows states to prosecute websites that facilitate sex trafficking and holds online platforms accountable for content posted by users. FOSTA modified Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which previously protected websites from being liable for user-generated content. Supporters argue it helps protect victims, while critics believe it may lead to unintended consequences by pushing sex work underground, making it less safe for those involved.
