Fort Phil Kearny
Fort Phil Kearny was a military outpost established by the United States in 1866 during the westward expansion. Located in present-day Wyoming, it served as a garrison for troops during conflicts with Native American tribes, particularly the Sioux. The fort was named after General Philip Kearny and played a strategic role in protecting travelers and settlers on the Bozeman Trail. It is notably known for the Fetterman Massacre in 1866, where a large group of Sioux warriors ambushed U.S. troops. The fort was abandoned in 1868 after a treaty was signed that closed the trail to settlers.
