Forest Rights Committee
A Forest Rights Committee (FRC) is a local group comprised of community members, particularly forest-dwelling Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers, established to help recognize and secure their rights over forest land and resources. The committee’s role is to assess claims, ensure community participation, and facilitate the legal acknowledgment of rights under forest laws like the Forest Rights Act. By doing so, the FRC empowers local communities to sustainably manage their environment, preserve their livelihoods, and ensure their traditional knowledge and practices are protected within the legal framework.
