Forces Françaises Libres
The Forces Françaises Libres (Free French Forces) were military units formed by France’s leaders-in-exile during World War II after France was occupied by Germany in 1940. Led by General Charles de Gaulle, their goal was to resist Nazi occupation and fight alongside Allied forces. These forces included soldiers, sailors, and airmen who fought in various campaigns across Europe, North Africa, and beyond. The Free French Forces symbolized French resistance and the fight to regain national sovereignty, playing a crucial role in the liberation of France and the eventual defeat of the Axis powers.
