Follicular Phase
The follicular phase is the first part of a woman’s menstrual cycle, starting on the first day of her period. During this phase, the body produces hormones that stimulate the ovaries to develop several follicles, each containing an egg. Usually, one follicle becomes dominant, grows larger, and prepares to release an egg. This process generally lasts about 10-14 days and signals the body to ready itself for possible pregnancy. The follicular phase is essential for ovulation, which occurs when the mature egg is released and can be fertilized.
