Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a kidney condition where scar tissue forms in parts of the tiny filtering units called glomeruli. These glomeruli are responsible for removing waste and excess fluid from the blood. When scarring occurs, it can impair kidney function, leading to protein leakage in the urine, swelling, and possibly kidney failure over time. The exact cause is often unknown, but it can result from genetic factors, infections, or other kidney diseases. Treatment aims to reduce protein loss and slow progression, often involving medications like steroids or immunosuppressants, but the condition can be challenging to manage.
