FMRP
FMRP (fragile X mental retardation protein) is a protein produced in the brain that helps regulate how genes are expressed, particularly those involved in brain development and synaptic function. It acts as a translator or gatekeeper, controlling when and how certain proteins are produced in nerve cells. Proper levels of FMRP are crucial for normal brain development and cognitive functions. When the FMRP gene is mutated or missing, as in fragile X syndrome, this regulation is disrupted, leading to learning difficulties, behavioral challenges, and developmental delays.
