Flatfish are a unique group of fish characterized bytheir flattened bodies and both eyes located on one side of their head, a result of their unusual development. They live on the ocean floor, blending into the surroundings using their coloration and shape for camouflage. As they grow, they gradually shift their eyes to one side of their head, allowing them to lie flat against the seabed while keeping both eyes vigilant for predators and prey. Common examples include halibut and flounder. Their specialized body structure helps them thrive in benthic environments, making them efficient ambush predators.
