Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty
The Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty (FMCT) is an international agreement aimed at preventing the production of new fissile material—such as highly enriched uranium and weapons-grade plutonium—used in nuclear weapons. Its goal is to halt the growth of nuclear arsenals by establishing a global norm and verification measures to restrict the manufacture of these materials. While negotiations remain ongoing, the treaty seeks to promote nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation by ensuring that no additional fissile material is produced for military purposes worldwide.
