Fisherian runaway
Fisherian runaway is an evolutionary process where a trait becomes more and more exaggerated because of a positive feedback loop between the trait and female preferences. For example, if females prefer males with a certain flashy feature, such as a long tail, males with longer tails are more likely to reproduce. As offspring inherit both the trait and the preference, this preference intensifies, leading to even more exaggerated traits over generations. This process continues until natural factors, like survival disadvantages, balance the exaggerated trait, or a limit is reached.
