First Indochina War

The First Indochina War (1946-1954) was a conflict between French colonial forces and Vietnamese nationalist groups, primarily led by the Viet Minh, aiming for independence from French rule. After World War II, Vietnam sought self-governance, but France wanted to retain control. The war involved guerrilla tactics, significant battles, and worldwide Cold War tensions. It ended with the French defeat at Dien Bien Phu and the 1954 Geneva Accords, which led to Vietnam's division into North and South, setting the stage for further conflict.
