First Barons' War

The First Barons’ War (1215–1217) was a conflict in medieval England between a group of rebellious barons and King John. The barons were unhappy with the king's heavy taxes and unfair rule, and they forced him to sign the Magna Carta in 1215, which limited royal power and protected nobles’ rights. When King John later tried to reject the Magna Carta, the barons rebelled, supported by French forces. The war ended with the defeat of the rebels and the reaffirmation of the Magna Carta, establishing a precedent for limited royal authority and legal protections.
