Filariasis

Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by thread-like worms transmitted through bites of infected mosquitoes. The worms live in the lymphatic system, which helps drain excess fluid from tissues. Over time, the infection can cause inflammation, swelling, and thickening of affected body parts, commonly leading to conditions like elephantiasis, where limbs or genitals become severely swollen. Symptoms may develop gradually and can cause significant discomfort and disability. Proper diagnosis, treatment with antiparasitic medications, and mosquito control are essential to manage and prevent the spread of filariasis.
