Fibrosis staging

Fibrosis staging assesses the extent of liver damage caused by scarring (fibrosis). It ranges from stage 0, indicating no scarring, to stage 4, which signifies advanced cirrhosis where the liver structure is significantly distorted. The staging helps doctors determine how much liver tissue has been replaced with scar tissue, monitor disease progression, and guide treatment choices. By understanding the stage, patients and clinicians can better evaluate prognosis and the impact of ongoing liver injury.
