Fenian Raids
The Fenian Raids were a series of armed incursions carried out by Irish nationalist groups, primarily the Fenian Brotherhood, from the United States into British-controlled Canada between 1866 and 1871. Their goal was to pressure Britain to withdraw from Ireland and to support Irish independence. These raids involved soldiers and volunteers crossing the border to attack Canadian territory, often targeting military and economic sites. While they caused some damage and alarmed Canadian authorities, they were ultimately unsuccessful in their aim and contributed to increased efforts to strengthen Canadian defenses and unity.
