Federally Administered Tribal Areas
Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was a semi-autonomous region in northwestern Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan, comprising tribal districts with a unique legal and administrative system. Managed directly by the federal government, FATA retained tribal customs and customary laws, with limited provincial authority. It served as a strategic area, often associated with insurgency and militancy. In 2018, FATA was merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to improve governance and development, ending its special status. This change aimed to integrate the region more fully into Pakistan’s legal and administrative framework, facilitating better services and security.
