Federal Assembly of Austria
The Federal Assembly of Austria (Bundesversammlung) is a ceremonial body that convenes mainly to approve constitutional amendments and elect the Federal President. It consists of two chambers: the National Council (Nationalrat) and the Federal Council (Bundesrat). Members of these chambers come from Austria’s main political parties and represent the legislative branch, while the Assembly itself functions as a joint session. Its role is largely formal, serving as a constitutional check and a symbol of national unity during special occasions such as presidential elections.
