FDG (Fluorodeoxyglucose)

Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) is a special form of glucose (sugar) labeled with a tiny amount of a radioactive element called fluorine-18. When injected into the body, FDG behaves like regular glucose, being taken up by cells that need energy, especially active ones like cancer cells. Using a PET scan, doctors can detect where the radioactive FDG accumulates, helping identify abnormal or rapidly growing tissues. This imaging technique is valuable for diagnosing, staging, and monitoring various cancers and other diseases involving abnormal cell activity.
