Familial Cold Autoinflammatory Syndrome

Familial Cold Autoinflammatory Syndrome (FCAS) is a rare genetic condition where the immune system overreacts to cold exposure, causing inflammation. When a person with FCAS is exposed to cold, they may experience symptoms like fever, joint pain, skin rash, and fatigue. These symptoms usually appear shortly after being in the cold and resolve once they warm up. The condition is caused by a genetic mutation that leads to abnormal immune responses, and while it isn't contagious, it requires management to prevent or lessen episodes. Treatment may include medications to control inflammation and prevent symptoms.
