False Belief Task
The False Belief Task is a way to assess whether someone understands that others can hold beliefs that are incorrect or different from reality. It typically involves showing a person a situation where a character places an object in a location and then leaves. While they’re gone, the object is moved. The question is whether the person recognizes that the character will believe the object is still in its original spot, despite knowing it has moved. Successfully passing the task indicates that the individual understands that others can have beliefs that don't match the current facts, an important aspect of social cognition and Theory of Mind.
