Falkland Islands (Malvinas)
The Falkland Islands, also known as the Malvinas, are a remote archipelago located in the South Atlantic Ocean. They consist of two main islands and about 776 smaller ones. The islands are a British Overseas Territory, but Argentina also claims sovereignty, leading to a territorial dispute. In 1982, this dispute escalated into a brief war between Argentina and the United Kingdom. The islands are known for their rich wildlife, particularly seabirds and marine life, and have a small population primarily engaged in fishing and tourism. Today, they are administered by Britain, but Argentina continues to assert its claim.
