Fairchild F-4

The Fairchild F-4 is a nuclear-powered experimental aircraft developed by the United States in the 1950s. Its main goal was to explore high-speed, long-range flight capabilities and the potential of nuclear propulsion for military aircraft. Due to its nuclear reactor, it could stay airborne for extended periods, challenging traditional jet refueling needs. However, the project faced significant technical, safety, and political issues, and it was eventually canceled. The F-4 remains a notable example of Cold War innovation and the mid-20th-century ideas about advanced, long-endurance aircraft.
