Fairbairn's theory of object relations
Fairbairn's theory of object relations focuses on how early relationships, particularly with primary caregivers, shape an individual’s personality and emotional life. He proposed that our mental health is influenced by the internalized images of these relationships, called "objects." Rather than viewing people as driven by basic drives like Freud suggested, Fairbairn emphasized the importance of connection and the need for love and acceptance. Problems in these early connections can lead to difficulties in relationships and emotional challenges later in life. Essentially, our early experiences with others heavily influence how we relate to ourselves and the people around us.
