Föhn (Foehn) Wind

Föhn (or Foehn) wind is a warm, dry breeze that occurs on the leeward side of mountains, typically after moist air passes over the peaks. As the air rises, it cools and loses moisture as precipitation on the windward side. When this now-dry air descends on the other side, it warms up, leading to higher temperatures. This phenomenon can rapidly change local weather, leading to milder conditions. Föhn winds are particularly common in the Alps and can also affect regions worldwide, influencing both climate and local ecosystems.
