Exposure and Response Prevention

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a cognitive-behavioral therapy used primarily for OCD. It involves gradually facing situations or objects that trigger anxiety or compulsive behaviors, in a controlled and supportive way. The goal is to reduce fear and avoidance over time by learning that these situations are not harmful and that anxiety decreases naturally. While exposed, the person refrains from performing their usual compulsive responses. This process helps individuals develop new, healthier ways to manage their fears, ultimately decreasing OCD symptoms and improving daily functioning.
