Eurypterids

Eurypterids, commonly known as sea scorpions, were large aquatic arthropods that lived from about 445 to 248 million years ago. They belonged to a group related to modern arachnids and are known for their extensive, streamlined bodies, sharp appendages, and powerful claws. Eurypterids inhabited marine environments, with some species reaching over 2 meters (6.5 feet) in length. They were top predators of their time, feeding on smaller animals. Although called "sea scorpions," they are not true scorpions but are an important part of prehistoric marine ecosystems, providing insight into early terrestrial and aquatic life.
