Erythropoiesis

Erythropoiesis is the process by which our body produces red blood cells. It begins in the bone marrow with stem cells that develop into immature red blood cells. When the kidneys detect low oxygen levels in the blood, they release a hormone called erythropoietin, which signals the bone marrow to increase red blood cell production. These new cells mature and enter the bloodstream, where they transport oxygen from the lungs to tissues and carry carbon dioxide back to the lungs for exhalation. This continuous process ensures the body receives enough oxygen to function properly.
