Eric Wieschaus
Eric Wieschaus is an American developmental biologist renowned for his research on the genetic mechanisms that control embryonic development in fruit flies, or Drosophila. His groundbreaking work helped reveal how genes influence the formation of body structures during early stages of life. In 1995, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, alongside colleagues Edward B. Lewis and Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard, for their contributions to understanding how genes determine the development of organisms. Wieschaus's research has greatly advanced our knowledge of genetics and developmental biology, with implications for understanding human development and disease.
