The Erdős-Bacon number is a playful concept that combines two well-known figures: mathematician Paul Erdős and actor Kevin Bacon. An Erdős number measures the collaborative distance in academic papers between a mathematician and Erdős; an Erdős number of 1 means they co-authored a paper with him. Similarly, a Bacon number measures how closely an actor is linked to Kevin Bacon through a chain of co-starring roles in films.
