ER chaperones

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) chaperones are specialized proteins within the cell's ER that assist in the proper folding of newly made proteins. Their role is to ensure proteins achieve the correct shape, which is essential for their function. If proteins are misfolded, ER chaperones help either refold them correctly or target them for degradation to prevent cellular malfunction. They act as quality control agents, maintaining protein health within the cell and supporting normal cellular function.
