Equal temperament guitar
Equal temperament is a tuning system used on the guitar (and most Western instruments) where the octave is divided into 12 equal parts called semitones. This means each fret represents the same pitch increase, allowing musicians to play in any key without retuning. It ensures that chords and scales sound relatively in tune across different keys, providing versatility and consistency. While it slightly alters the natural harmonic relationships found in pure intervals, equal temperament has become standard because of its practicality for versatile, all-around tuning.
