Epee

An epee is a type of sword used in the sport of fencing. It has a heavier, rectangular blade and a larger, stiffer tip. Unlike other fencing weapons, in epee, the entire body is a valid target, and touches score points. When a fencer’s tip makes contact with their opponent, it registers a valid hit through an electrical sensor. Epee fencing emphasizes precision, timing, and strategic parries, requiring athletes to carefully defend and attack, as the rules allow for simultaneous touches. It is a discipline that combines skill, tactics, and composure in a controlled, competitive format.
