Enteroaggregative E. coli

Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli (EAEC) is a type of bacteria that can cause diarrhea and intestinal discomfort. It spreads through contaminated food or water, or by close contact with infected individuals. EAEC is characterized by its ability to both stick together in clusters and adhere strongly to the lining of the gut, which can interfere with normal digestion and water absorption. Symptoms may include diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. While often self-limiting, it can cause dehydration in vulnerable populations. Proper hygiene, safe food handling, and clean water are important in preventing infection.
