English Civil War timeline

The English Civil War (1642–1651) was a conflict between King Charles I and Parliament over authority and governance. Tensions grew over royal power, religion, and taxes, leading to battles between the Royalists (supporters of the king) and Parliamentarians. Key events include the outbreak of war in 1642, the trial and execution of Charles I in 1649, and the establishment of the Commonwealth under Oliver Cromwell. After Cromwell's death, the monarchy was restored in 1660 with King Charles II. The war significantly shifted power from the monarchy to Parliament, shaping modern Britain’s political landscape.
