Enemy Prisoners of War
Enemy prisoners of war (EPWs) refer to military personnel captured by an opposing force during armed conflict. According to international law, particularly the Geneva Conventions, EPWs are entitled to certain protections ensuring humane treatment, safety, and access to basic needs, regardless of the circumstances of their capture. They cannot be punished for simply taking part in hostilities and must be treated fairly without discrimination. Their rights include access to communication with their families and proper medical care. The humane treatment of EPWs aims to uphold ethical standards in warfare and reduce unnecessary suffering.
