Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)

Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove abnormal tissue from the gastrointestinal tract, such as polyps or early-stage cancers. During the procedure, a doctor uses an endoscope—a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light—to visualize the area. Special tools attached to the endoscope can then cut and lift the targeted tissue for removal. EMR allows for precise excision while preserving surrounding healthy tissue, making it an important option for diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal conditions without the need for major surgery.
