Endarterectomy
An endarterectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove plaque buildup from the inside of an artery, typically in the neck or legs, to restore proper blood flow. Plaque, made of fat, cholesterol, and other debris, can narrow arteries and increase the risk of strokes or other problems. During the procedure, a surgeon makes an incision, opens the artery, and carefully removes the plaque. This helps improve circulation and reduces the risk of complications caused by restricted blood flow. Endarterectomy is often performed when lifestyle changes and medications aren’t enough to manage artery narrowing.
