Empire of Japan

The Empire of Japan was Japan's imperial government from 1868 to 1947, during which Japan transformed from a feudal society into a major industrial and military power. It expanded its territory through colonization and military conquest, including parts of China, Korea, and Southeast Asia. This period includes Japan’s aggressive actions leading to World War II and its subsequent defeat and occupation by Allied forces. After 1947, Japan became a constitutional democracy with a pacifist constitution, ending its imperial rule.
